I've been looking around the College Football Database at Nebraska's losses...A friend over in the Geology Department asked me, "How many non-BCS teams have won at Nebraska?" and I said I would find out. Here's what I learned....Since Nebraska began playing football in 1890, only 12 teams not currently in the B.C.S. (members of the ACC, Big East, Big Ten, Big XII, Pac 10, SEC, and Notre Dame) have won at Nebraska. Two of them were military teams during the World Wars. The last one before us was Air Force, 41 years prior. Only five teams have done it in Memorial Stadium. Here's the list: |
1894 |
Doane |
1896 |
Butte AC |
1898 |
Drake |
1899 |
Grinnell |
1908 |
Carlisle Indian School |
1909 |
Haskell Institute |
1918 |
Camp Dodge (WWI Team) |
|
|
1942 |
Iowa Navy Pre-Flight (WWII Team) |
1951 |
TCU |
1955 |
Hawaii |
1963 |
Air Force |
2004 |
Southern Mississippi |
Furthermore, only 20 different schools (in a total of 27 games) that are currently not in the B.C.S. have beat Nebraska ANYWHERE, whether home, away, or at a bowl game.Again, two of these are military teams during the wars, and Houston was a member of the SWC in '79, and as conference champion went to the Cotton Bowl, which is sort of like a B.C.S. conference for the time. As well, TCU was a member of the SWC in 1955. Here's that list: |
